Health Groups Issue Guidelines for Obesity Treatment

Health groups issue guidelines for obesity treatment
The Obesity Society, the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology have released guidelines that urge physicians to help obese patients identify the best weight-loss diet or program for them. "The overall objective is quite a tall order: to get primary care practitioners to own weight management as they own hypertension management," said obesity researcher Donna Ryan, who co-chaired the committee that wrote the recommendations. The guidelines, which accompany ones for lifestyle, cholesterol and cardiovascular-risk calculations, are published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Obesity: Journal of The Obesity Society and Circulation.
