The Wyoming Cleft Palate Evaluation Team was founded in 1967. Clinics are conducted biannually and are funded by Dental Health Services, Wyoming Department of Health. These Spring and Fall Clinics are scheduled on Thursday and Friday of a given month. Casper was chosen as the clinic site because of its central location for both the patients and team members. The clinic services are available without charge to Wyoming residents with cleft lip and/or palate and other facial anomalies.

Services provided by the Cleft Palate Evaluation Team are only for diagnostic purposes and treatment recommendations. Clinics provide no treatment. Diagnostic services include audiology, dental, genetic, oral surgery, orthodontic, otolaryngology, pediatric, plastic surgery and speech pathology.  Professionals are also available to help coordinate services with Children's Health Services, Dental Health Services and Public Health Nursing Services.

Initial participation in the clinic takes approximately two hours.  A team staffing is held at the end of each day.  During staffing individual patients are discussed and final recommendations are made.  A team member is designated to do follow-up with each patient.  A letter is sent to parents with the team recommendations for care and follow-up.  The recommendations are also sent to other care providers designated by the parents. These can include physician, dentist, orthodontist, speech/language pathologist, plastic surgeon, E.N.T., audiologist and public health nurse.

For more information please call 777-7945 or contact your local public health nursing office.
