Public Health Nursing

Public Health Nursing is an organization within the Community and Rural Health Division of the Wyoming Department of Health.

"PHN" is located in county health offices throughout Wyoming, and consists of professional individuals with one main concern: "Healthy People in Healthy Communities".

We are here to protect and enhance the health and well-being of "all" Wyoming citizens and see that risks are identified and served.

Some of our important duties are to:

  • Prevent the spread of disease
  • Prevent injuries
  • Promote healthy behavior
  • Respond to disasters
  • Increase access to health care

Our Mission

The basis of public health nursing in Wyoming is the "ANA Standards of Community Health Practice", with the emphasis on risk reduction and health promotion. Public health nursing is delivered in a non-discriminatory manner and requires participation of the client, who may be an individual, family or community. Public health nurses act as advocates for the client, realizing that certain individual rights may be forfeited for the protection of the community.
