No Wrong Doors Initiative
The purpose of the “No Wrong Doors” initiative is the development of a pilot program to provide screening, brief intervention, and referral to substance abuse treatment services to people who are at-risk for developing substance abuse problems. The ultimate long-term goal of this project is to provide screening and brief intervention to an at-risk population, to reduce recidivism, and to increase sobriety. The public health approach used in this project is based on the principles of Motivational Interviewing and SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment), a system for information and service delivery focused on identification of current and potential future substance use issues. We are currently working in cooperation with the Laramie County Public Defender’s Office, local Public Health Nursing offices, and the Laramie County Free Clinic, with plans to expand this project to other locations (such as Emergency Rooms, etc.) in the future.
