The Wyoming State Hospital strives to provide excellent psychiatric interventions for the citizens of Wyoming. It is intended that patients will be physically and psychiatrically safe, receiving assistance wherever needed to have the best possible quality of life every day. The hospital promotes the gaining of skills and resources necessary to live successfully, satisfied, and as independently as possible. The values inherent in this include, in the most normalizing manner possible: that patients experience dignity and self determination; that a large spectrum of physical, social, and emotional opportunities be available; that patients be encouraged to work from personal strengths; that support be developed in a patient's attempts at growth; that patients be encouraged in the development of interpersonal relationships and, to become involved and/or integrated into the larger community.

Adult Psychiatric Services
Provides comprehensive acute and intermediate care services for those persons requiring psychiatric intervention as defined by being a danger to self or others, or being unable to care for self due to mental illness. multidisciplinary assessment and individualized treatment planning occurs for each patient. Stabilization, learning how to manage one’s illness, and maintenance thereafter, is accomplished through medications, therapies, and reintroduction to the community.
Medical Geriatric Psychiatric Services
Provides sensitive, quality, individualized care for patients who have medical, psychiatric and/or geriatric needs. An excellent staff to patient ratio allows for the special attention required for persons who have significant loss of mental and/or physical capacity.

Criminal Justice Services
provide forensic services for those persons ordered by the court for intervention. Those services include forensic evaluations on an inpatient and outpatient basis, and, when indicated, treatment to competency toward continuation through the adjudicative process; a secure setting in which treatment is provided for persons who have an inability to control their behaviors and are a danger to others including those who are admitted through an Emergency Detention; individualized treatment plans giving the opportunity for persons who are Not Guilty due to Mental Illness to gain the skills and resources needed to leave the hospital and live in a less restrictive setting.

Extended Psychiatric Services
provide a range of services for persons with a history of mental illness who do not live in an inpatient setting. Those services include: housing; management of physical and psychiatric health issues; basic self care; medications management; financial management; housekeeping and home maintenance skills; transportation; leisure and recreational activities; utilization of community services and resources; and, becoming a member in personal recovery.
Co-Occurring Disorders Services
provides a 49 day residential program for dually diagnosed adults (mental illness and substance abuse) who have been referred after having first been admitted to another WSH service. Issues related to addiction, recovery, and aftercare are primary focuses toward overall sober improvement of a person’s lifestyle.

ADMISSION
The process of admission to the hospital varies by program. In general, being admitted as an inpatient occurs through a court hearing. However, if you, or someone you know is in need of assistance for any reason, do not hesitate to contact the hospital to inquire about services available through the hospital or your community.
