Recreational Specialist Services
The Recreational Therapy department offers a variety
of services to meet the recreational/leisure and therapeutic needs of the
people living at WLRC.
The aquatic and riding
facilities are utilized by many non-resident community persons who need those
types of specialized services.
Watsu or Bad Ragaz aquatic therapy is conducted
in one of the three therapeutic pools. In addition, several people have
individual specialized programs that are conducted in the pool.
Therapeutic riding is
beneficial for people who have a wide range of cognitive, physical, and
emotional conditions. Our indoor riding arena is a state of the art facility
that features shredded rubber flooring, a mechanical lift to assist people
on/off the horse if needed, and individualized programs and equipment to meet
the needs of each rider.
Horticultural therapy offers a barrier-free,
therapeutic area that enables everyone to work, learn, and relax while
participating with plants. The greenhouse has a variety of adaptive equipment
and tools to help people work as independently as possible. We sow and grow an
average of 2500 bedding plants each year to plant around the campus.

Recreational therapy provides active treatment while
helping people learn skills, enjoy preferred activities, and have fun in a
variety of settings. Treatment may incorporate arts and crafts, animals, sports, games, dance
and movement, music and community outings.
