Canyons - ICF - A Program for Persons with Developmental Disabilities
Everyone at WLRC- CANYONS/ICF, understands that choosing a residence for a loved one can be a very difficult decision. We want to make this transition as smoothly as possible for both the individual and her or his family. We spend time with families and guardians to build close, life-long relationships so that we can become a second family for the individual.
Our reputation as a comfortable and stable environment for individuals with mental retardation begins with our superior staff who offer the support needed to help our clients achieve their goals. Clients learn to become more independent through activities, daily chores, and for some, jobs where they earn a paycheck. We also assure that everyone’s physical and medical needs are met through our medical and therapy professionals in conjunction with staff working in Canyons/ICF.
Our individuals live in homes on a beautiful campus that allow them to experience a warm atmosphere similar to the one they would experience at home. They have the freedom to personalize their living space, and help with the cooking and cleaning of their home. Individuals attend program centers during the day where they learn skills and work towards achieving personal goals.
Individuals at Canyons/ICF also participate in many extracurricular activities including going on trips to local sporting and cultural events, vacations in the western areas, parades, carnivals, picnicking in local parks and participating in Special Olympics, to name a few. We also honor our individuals with holiday and birthday celebrations.
When a family or guardian expresses an interest in CANYONS/ICF services, we request a letter in writing to our superintendent, expressing interest in our services for the person. A primary diagnosis of mental retardation is required for admission. A release of information form will be requested so that we may obtain necessary information such as medical, behavior and physical evaluation and most recent, IPP, IPC or IEP ,to assist in determining if we are the appropriate service provider. The Client Services Coordinator will be the main contact person during this process of information gathering.
If a person is appropriate for our program the family or guardian will be invited for a tour and meeting with the Canyons Coordinator. After that meeting if it is determined that our services can meet the needs of the person the formal process of meeting with a Qualified Mental Retardation Professional(QMRP) in charge of one of our living areas will begin.
CANYONS/ICF program encourages family and guardian involvement. Families and guardians are invited to be a part of the person served, goal planning, and team meetings.
